Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. has been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2013 and is the longest-serving Indian American in Congress. He is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he serves as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific and a Member of the Subcommittee on Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations. Congressman Bera also serves on the House Oversight Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Before Congress, he had a twenty-year medical career practicing medicine in the Sacramento area and serving as Sacramento County’s Chief Medical Officer. Congressman Bera has lived in Elk Grove for over 20 years with his wife Janine, who is also a medical doctor. They are proud parents to their daughter, Sydra.
